Ninth movie of this young year is my favorite film I saw last year, The Social Network. Bought it on Blu-ray as soon as it was available.

I can't help but notice the similarites in style between this and my other favorite Fincher film, Fight Club. Also, when Andrew Garfield is breaking up with his girlfriend after she sets his bed on fire, was that an audition to play Peter Parker, or is it just me?

Ok, eighth movie of the year is one of my top 5 from last year, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Watched it on Playstation Network digital download for about the 6th time.

Not much to say here, except I love this movie. Gets better every time I see it. Brandon Routh is from my home town. If you haven't seen it, see it now!

Second movie watched with the chick last night was Fool's Gold. Repeat viewing on DVD. Once again, low expectations make for an enjoyable watch. Damn that girl who plays Gemma is hot! Donald Sutherland brings a calming wave over the whole film. And it's the first place I've seen Malcom Jamal-Warner since the Cosby Show.

Was at the girlfriends apartment last night and we watched a couple movies. The first was The Condemned. Repeat viewing on DVD. I am going to have to tell you that I enjoyed this movie. It helps that I went in with very, very low expectations, but all-in-all it's a pretty good action flick. I love Vinnie Jones. A little improvement could've been made by adding Danny Trejo to the cast.

Fifth movie of the year was Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Repeat viewing last night on DVD. I watched this movie for probably the fifth time and I love it more every time. I also watched all the featurettes, and now I really can't wait for the new Muppett movie. Jason Segel is the absolute best choice to be in and write that film.

Ok, next up is Ben Affleck's tale of Boston bank robbers, The Town. I watched for the first time last night, on a rented Blu-ray.

Let me first say that I have never been a big Affleck fan. I have always considered him to be the less talented childhood friend of Matt Damon who, possibly at the insistence of his good buddy, rides the coat tails of Matt's success. Now that I have seen this film, I believe that Mr. Affleck has carved his own niche as a director. He also shares screenwriting credit, but I don't believe the script was the strongest component of the movie. Affleck seems to have taken a directing lesson or two from Michael Mann, or at least watched Heat multiple times to learn how to helm a heist movie such as this. The only thing that turned me off was the length, at 2 hours, 5 minutes. It seemed to drag a little bit at times. Out of fairness, I was watching the extended version on the Blu-Ray, though. No idea what the difference is between it at the original theatrical version. Also, as a life-long Red Sox fanatic, I loved the final robbery of the movie. I hope that doesn't give too much away. 4 out of 5 stars for The Town.

Next on my tally is Charlie Wilson's War. This was a repeat viewing that I downloaded through the Playstation Network. I LOVE this film. Tom Hanks is wonderful as the whiskey drinking, womanizing, foul-mouthed congressman from Texas. Phillip Seymour Hoffman is also superb as the unlikely and totally non-stereotypical spy, Gust Avacodos. Never been a big Julia Roberts fan, but she does well. Amy Adams is just plain fucking hot. Great script by Aaron Sorkin. 4 1/2 out of 5 stars. Would be 5, but they skimped a little on the Hind helicopter action scenes, although that's not what the movie as about. Would have loved to meet the real Charlie Wilson in person. Alas, he passed away a couple months ago. RIP, Charlie and thanks for keeping us safe against the commie bastards.

P.S. I love this movie so much, I actually watched it twice, back to back last night, but I'm only counting it as one.

First movie of the year is District 9. Watched at home on Blu-ray. First time viewing. Not bad for not having a single recognizable face in the film. I didn't care about the aliens as much as the movie wanted me to. I spent most of the movie trying to figure out their motivations. Probably only score it 3 out of 5 stars.
